Swenglish

I’ve gotten a couple of questions as to why I write my blog in English and not Swedish, which is my native language. There are a few reasons for this and while I won’t go into detail on all of them, here are a few;

A broader audience. My English is on a native level and I do enjoy wordsmithing in this language. Sometimes there are sayings or proverbs in Swedish that are very hard to translate or just plain impossible but I won’t let that stop me from doing what I do. I am a crafty little thing so I’ll just find a way around it. 🙂 And let’s be real, most Swedes understand and speak English on a good level so they’ll get my content just fine even though it is in English.

Part of the intended audience, that’s supposed to read this, are people I want to work for, already working for, or perhaps have worked for, in my role as freelance writer and translator. I do most of my professional writing in English, generally because the market is so much bigger than only working on the Swedish one.

The challenge. I am always trying to find ways to express myself, in both my languages and since I don’t speak English since birth I find that I want to maintain it more than my Swedish, in which I usually speak and think daily (although I do some of my thinking in English as well)
