As Canonical is getting ready to release a new flavor, Ubuntu Cinnamon remix, there are questions being raised if this will render Linux Mint obsolete from the diverse range of Linux distros. I for one, think it will not.
Ubuntu adopting the Cinnamon desktop will not render Linux Mint irrelevant. Linux Mint is more than solely the Cinnamon desktop interface – it encompasses an exclusive collection of features, adjustments, and programs distinct to the system and absent from Ubuntu.
The stable and reliable operating system of Linux Mint attracts a large and committed user base who appreciate its user-friendly approach. Even when Ubuntu integrates the Cinnamon desktop, Linux Mint will still remain popular as a distinct operating system.
In addition, the appeal of Linux Mint extends beyond just its Cinnamon desktop. It provides diverse options, like Mate and Xfce, that are perfect for those with older equipment. This adaptability sets it apart from competitors such as Ubuntu by accommodating a broader user base with unique hardware needs and preferences.
To put it shortly, Ubuntu incorporating the Cinnamon desktop will probably not diminish the distinctive qualities, adaptations, and programs that differentiate Linux Mint.
