I’ve been asked, several times, to write about current and ”popular” ways people can get scammed online. I’ve thought about it but decided against writing such a post, for many reasons; Firstly, it would probably be the longest blog post in modern history. There are so many scams out there, that it would be virtually impossible to clock them all. Secondly, the scams constantly evolve. What is ”in” today will most likely be ancient history tomorrow; therefore, the info I write about it would quickly turn obsolete. Thirdly, plainly put: Hell No!
What I can say about this is that if something feels ”off”, just walk away. If it feels wrong, it probably is. If it feels too good, it probably is.
Scammers prey on desperation. They thrive in environments where people have an urge or a need. And it ALWAYS comes down to one thing, and one thing only: They want your money. Either the money you have in your account/wallet, or money you’ve already invested, as in your internet connection, server capacity, time, or intellectual wealth. Mainly it’s your actual money they’re after.
Stay vigilant, alert, and act on suspicion. Report the motherfuckers, and make life as hard as humanly possible for them. Don’t just ignore it. Press that report button and make a change. However small that change might feel, it’s needed.
