No, I am not stuck in a pitch-black room with no view. I am just getting rid of Microsofts Windows again. Back in 2006, I migrated from Windows to Ubuntu, the Linux-based operating system that was all the buzz back then. It was a smooth transition except for a few hickups with a few hardware drivers and lacking some software. But I LOVED the experience. Ubuntu wasn’t very smooth back then and had a pretty ugly UI. But it had freedom. Lots of freedom. You could also do a lot under the hood to improve how it looked and behaved and that made a real difference. One of the main features, for me, was the fact that you could have many desktops running at once. And it was easy to change and find your way around it. Think of it as multiple screens. Which very few people had back then.

Due to Covid and the need for stuff like Teams, slack, and so on, I actually moved back to Windows at the end of 2020. And while Windows has improved a lot, I wasn’t happy with the situation. Yes, I know I could have done dual boot but I am a lazy little thing so it was all or nothing for me. Last week I ordered a new computer since my old one just wasn’t cutting it anymore. It needed to go into retirement. Nothing wrong with it as such, it just was too slow. While I was looking at the new laptop, I was thinking I might as well get one that can run Linux, and yesterday it came. For some reason, it was running Windows 10 (don’t get me started) but I was determined to change that ASAP, and did so. So here I am, with a laptop from the HP renew program, running Linux Mint (for now) and have everything I need. Slack, teams, skype, image manipulation, Spotify, and so on. The only thing not working is my bank security box, but I was aware of that. I rarely use it anymore so if I need to, I’ll just go to the bank or borrow my partners laptop for it.
”HP renew program?”, I hear you ask. Yes, I am a firm believer that we don’t need to buy new stuff all the time. I looked into finding something refurbed and HP has a program for it so here we are. It looks brand new, it feels brand new and I am, so far, very happy with it. If you want to read more about HPs renew program you can look into their FAQ.
